Orlando Solar Bears News Release
Orlando, FL - The Solar Bears fired 43 shots on goal but G Ryan Zapolski turned aside all but one to sink the Solar Bears 3-1 in front of 8,590 fans at the Amway Center on Saturday night.
For the second straight game, the Stingrays jumped out to a 1-0 lead early in the first frame. D Camerie Brodie was able to work the puck towards the left wall and slid it between the pads of G Patrick Killeen to put South Carolina ahead 1-0. It was the only goal scored in the opening 20 minutes, as the Stingrays held a 1-0 lead going into the first intermission.
The Stingrays increased their lead to 2-0 with a power play goal in the second stanza. A shot from D Derek Foam hit traffic in front of the net, and F Andrew Cherniwchan swatted the loose puck into the back of the cage exactly 10 minutes into the period. South Carolina held their 2-0 advantage going into the final period.
Just under six minutes into the third period, South Carolina extended their lead to 3-0. D Luka Vidmar fired a shot through traffic that found its way past Killeen for the Stingrays second power play goal of the game. Late in the frame, the Solar Bears found some offensive life when D Jesse Dudas walked in from the right wing and blasted a slap shot past South Carolina G Ryan Zapolski to cut the Stingrays lead to 3-1 with 4:17 left to play. It was as close as Orlando would come as Zapolski turned aside 42 of 43 Orlando shots to give South Carolina a 3-1 victory.
