
Steelheads Konopka and Hay Called up to Utah

BOISE, Idaho -The Idaho Steelheads and Utah Grizzlies announced today that center Zenon Konopka has been re-called to the AHL (AAA) affiliate, Utah Grizzlies, and defenseman Darrell Hay has been loaned to the Grizzlies. Konopka, 22, has played in eight games with Idaho posting five goals with seven assists. The Niagara Falls, Ontario native has four multiple-point games, one shorthanded goal and one game- winning goal. The 6-1, 210-pound center played in four games with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins (AHL) last season notching an assist and adding nine penalty minutes. Konopka also played in 68 games with Wheeling (ECHL) last season scoring 22 goals and adding 48 assists for 70 points with 231 penalty minutes.
Hay, 23, has played in 18 games with Idaho ranking as the team's second leading scoring defenseman with 13 points (4-9 -13) including three power play goals. The Kamloops, British Columbia native has had a strong month of November with the Steelheads scoring three goals with five assists and has posted an even or plus rating in all 10 November games (+10 for the month). Last season, Hay split time between Manitoba (AHL) and Columbia (ECHL) posting 13 points (3-10 -13) with the Moose and five points (2-3 -5) with the Inferno. The 6-0, 190-pound defenseman played in 17 playoff games with Columbia as they made their way to the ECHL Finals where he scored 11 points (2-9 -11).
Earlier this season, forwards Warren Peters, Dylan Gyori and Jeff Bateman were re-called, as were defenseman Regan Darby. Goaltender Dan Ellis was also re-called this week, but will be back in time for this weekend's games.
The Steelheads take on the reigning Taylor Cup Champion Atlantic City Bullies for the first-ever match up of the two teams this Friday, December 5th and Saturday, December 6th.
