South Carolina's goaltender Kirk Daubenspeck stopped the Royals through two and a half periods as the Stingrays got their first win ever in regulation, 3-2. South Carolina scored three goals, one each period, to jump up 3-0 in the contest. Leading the way was rookie Kevin Spiewak who tallied two goals and an assist. The other Stingray tally came off of the stick of Trevor Johnson.

Reading mounted an attack late getting on the scoreboard at 13:10 blasted one by Daubenspeck. Three and a half minutes later Kent Davyduke picked up a shorthanded tally to make it 3-2 with three minutes to go. Reading could not get the equalizer.

The Royals return home for a pair of games Friday and Saturday against the Roanoke Express. Both games face off at 7:05 p.m.
