Steelheads Doyle named to ECHL All-Rookie Team

PRINCETON, N.J. - The ECHL on Thursday announced its All-Rookie Team for 2004-05 as determined in a vote of ECHL coaches, who were asked to select a goaltender, two defensemen and three forwards. A rookie is a player who has played in less than 25 professional games at the start of the season.

G - Frank Doyle, Idaho Steelheads (51 gp, 32-12-4, 2.13 GAA, .917 save pct.)

D - Mark Ardelan, South Carolina Stingrays (70 gp, 15g, 32a, 47 pts, -7)

D - Mike Jarmuth, Mississippi Sea Wolves (69 gp, 12g, 21a, 33 pts, +4)

F - Joe Tenute, South Carolina Stingrays (66 gp, 34g, 39a, 73 pts, -1)

F - Jeff Campbell, Gwinnett Gladiators (70 gp, 30g, 33a, 63 pts, +20)

F - Marco Rosa, Long Beach Ice Dogs (70 gp, 33g, 31a, 64 pts, +34)

Idaho goaltender Frank Doyle is 32-12-2 with a 2.11 goals-against average and .917 save percentage. He leads the ECHL with 32 wins and ranks second with 2,879 minutes. Tied for the league lead among rookie goaltenders with four shutouts, the 24-year-old Doyle was ECHL Saver of the Month for October, going 4-0-0 with a 1.47 goals-against average and .939 save percentage in first four professional starts. He stopped 20 of 21 shots in the second period and was voted the Most Valuable Player in the 2005 ECHL All-Star Game.

South Carolina defenseman Mark Ardelan is in his first professional season and under contract to Portland of the American Hockey League. Ardelan, who turned 22 on March 16, ranks second among ECHL defensemen with 15 goals and is tied for third with 47 points in 70 games. He is tied for third among ECHL rookies with 15 power-play assists. Ardelan has also played one game with Portland, registering an assist.

In his first full professional season, Mississippi defenseman Mike Jarmuth becomes the first Sea Wolf to earn ECHL All-Rookie honors. Jarmuth, who turned 23 on February 13, ranks 18th among league defensemen with 33 points (12g-21a) in 69 games. The 6-0 and 210-pound Jarmuth has five multiple-point games and three multiple-assist games.

South Carolina center Joe Tenute, who celebrated his 23rd birthday on April 2, leads ECHL rookies with 34 goals and 73 points and he ranks third among all ECHL players in goals and is fifth in scoring. He is tied for the rookie lead with 23 power-play points and ranks second with 39 assists. Selected in the eighth round (261st overall) by New Jersey in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft, Tenute, who scored a goal for the American Conference in the 2005 ECHL All-Star Game, scored a point in an ECHL season-high 14 consecutive games (8g-16a) and he tied the ECHL season highs for assists (5) and points (6) in a 7-3 win against Texas on March 8. He has 18 multiple-point games, including seven two-goal games and seven games with multiple assists.

In his first full professional season, Gwinnett center Jeff Campbell ranks fourth among league rookies with 30 goals and 63 points in 70 games. The 23-year-old Campbell, who had an assist for the American Conference in the 2005 ECHL All-Star Game, is tied for the Gladiators team lead in goals and power-play goals (7) while ranking second in scoring. The 5-9 and 170-pound Campbell scored five points (3g-2a) in a 6-4 win at South Carolina on February 4 and he has 17 multiple-point games, including three multiple-goal and three multiple-assist games.

Long Beach center Marco Rosa, who turned 23 on January 15, ranks second among ECHL rookies in goals (33), points (64) and plus-minus rating (+34) and is tied for third in shorthand goals (3). Selected in the eighth round (255th overall) by the Dallas Stars in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft, Rosa ranks third among all ECHL players in plus-minus rating and fourth in goals while he is tied for 15th in scoring. The 6-1 and 185-pound Rosa, who played for the National Conference in the 2005 ECHL All-Star Game, has had 17 multiple-point games, including three two-goal games and three games with two assists.
