Ardelan and Tenute Named To ECHL All Rookie Team

Princeton, NJ - The ECHL announced today that Mark Ardelan and Joe Tenute have been selected to the ECHL All Rookie Team. Both players represented the Stingrays at the ECHL All Star Game in Reading, PA this season.

"Our rookies have been a huge part of our success this season and these two guys in particular have been a key for us," commented Head Coach Jason Fitzsimmons. "Joe has proven to be a prolific scorer at this level, and Mark is already one of the best offensive defensemen in the league."

Ardelan from Avonlea, Saskatchewan, is currently second among the league's defensemen in goals with 15 and third in points with 47 in 70 games. Mark was assigned to the Stingrays before the season by the Portland Pirates, of the AHL. A year ago he was named to the first team all WHL, when he had 73 points on 19 goals and 54 assists in 72 games with Prince Albert. He is tied for third among ECHL rookies with 15 power-play assists. Ardelan has also played one game with Portland this season, registering an assist.

Joe Tenute leads all ECHL rookies with in points with 73 and goals with 34. The Hamilton, Ontario native leads the Stingrays in scoring and is third in the entire league in goals. Tenute had his biggest season as a junior in 2002-03 with Sarnia, when he scored 41 goals and added 71 assists for 112 points. His fine play that year earned him an eighth round draft pick by the New Jersey Devils. He was signed as a free agent by the Stingrays in September of 2004. Tenute, who scored a goal for the American Conference in the 2005 ECHL All-Star Game, scored a point in an ECHL season-high 14 consecutive games (8g-16a) and he tied the ECHL season highs for assists (5) and points (6) in a 7-3 win against Texas on March 8. He has 18 multiple-point games, including seven two-goal games and seven games with multiple assists.

The Stingrays have two games remaining in the regular season to determine their seeding in the Kelly Cup Playoffs. The Rays are currently in second place in the East Division, one point behind the Columbia Inferno. The Stingrays will play at Pee Dee on Friday and at Charlotte on Saturday.
