-SPIKES HIT THE ROAD TO TAKE ON MUCKDOGS: The State College Spikes, who still hold sole possession of first place in the New York-Penn League Wild Card race by 1 1/2 games, continue their 10th Season this evening as they begin a three-game series against the Batavia Muckdogs at Dwyer Stadium. The Spikes also remain within striking distance of Williamsport in the Pinckney Division standings as they are 4 1/2 games back entering Friday. State College is 3-3 against Batavia this year, with the Muckdogs sweeping a doubleheader on August 5 to take a series win over the Spikes at Dwyer Stadium. All-time, the Spikes are 48-48 against the Muckdogs, with a 22-25 mark at Dwyer Stadium.

-LAST GAME: The Spikes jumped out in front early on, but the Williamsport Crosscutters' bats came alive to carry them to a 9-4 win over the Spikes on Thursday night at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park. The Spikes struck in the third inning as Cole Lankford scored on Mike Pritchard's fielder's choice, and Leobaldo Pina then doubled in Pritchard. Williamsport's Jan Hernandez then hit a two-run homer to left in the fifth, his 10th of the season, to tie the game in the fifth and stop the Spikes' 13-inning scoreless string. Craig Aikin manufactured another go-ahead run for State College in the fifth, coming home on Jhohan Acevedo's sacrifice fly. After that, it was all Crosscutters, as Williamsport scored three runs in the sixth and capped its evening with three more runs in the ninth. Despite Lankford driving in a ninth-inning run for the Spikes with his second double in the ninth inning, State College would get no closer.

-MARTINEZ MAKES START FOR SPIKES: State College right-hander Dailyn Martinez gets the ball for his 11th start of the season tonight. Martinez has posted six quality starts of six innings or more with three earned runs or less this season, including each of his last four outings. The Santiago, Dominican Republic native last faced the Muckdogs in Game 1 of the August 5 doubleheader, allowing just one run on three hits and a walk over six innings in a no-decision. Martinez is 1-1 with a 3.32 ERA on the road in 2015, and has allowed leadoff hitters just a .208 average against him this season.

-SQUIER HEADS TO HILL FOR MUCKDOGS: Batavia left-hander Scott Squier will make his 12th appearance and fifth start of the year for the Muckdogs tonight. Squier has faced the Spikes twice this season, with drastically different results. The southpaw gave up three runs on two hits and three walks over 3 2/3 innings in State College on July 18, then tossed 5 2/3 scoreless innings for the victory in the second game of the doubleheader on August 5 in Batavia. Squier, the 16th-round draft choice of the Marlins in 2014, has gone 3-0 with a 4.22 ERA as a starter this season.

-SPIKES PRODUCE, BUT SOUTH FALLS IN ALL-STAR GAME: Spikes representatives Leobaldo Pina, Mike Pritchard, Casey Grayson, Juan Perez and Landon Beck all made contributions to the South n the 2015 New York-Penn League All-Star Game, but the North won the annual showcase of baseball's future stars, 4-2, on Tuesday night at Leidos Field at Ripken Stadium in Aberdeen, MD. Pina, who doubled, joined Pritchard, who scored a run, with hits in the game.

-MARTIN EARNS PRESTIGIOUS AWARD: Spikes Athletic Trainer Dan Martin has been named the New York-Penn League Athletic Trainer of the Year by the Professional Baseball Athletic Trainers Society (PBATS). The award is given annually to one member of each of the 16 leagues in Minor League Baseball, as well as one award for the Dominican Summer League, with an additional award is given to the Minor League Coordinator of the Year. Martin is now eligible for the Minor League Trainer of the Year award as well, which will be given at the 2015 Winter Meetings in Nashville, TN.
