Renegades Come From Behind to Defeat ValleyCats

Troy, NY (8/21/15)- The Hudson Valley Renegades defeated the Tri-City ValleyCats by a score of 4-2 on Friday evening at Joe Bruno Stadium. With the result, the Renegades saw their record improve to 29-29 while Tri-City fell to 32-26.

Hudson Valley's designated hitter Manny Sanchez led off the top of the second inning with a double and with two outs, center fielder Angel Moreno drove Sanchez home on a RBI single, giving the Renegades a 1-0 lead.

The ValleyCats tied the score at 1-1 in the bottom of the fourth inning as left fielder Aaron Mizell doubled and came around to score on a RBI double from first baseman Dexture McCall. Tri-City had a chance to take the lead later in the inning but Hudson Valley's right fielder Jose Paez threw out third baseman Bobby Wernes at home plate as he tried to score on a fly ball off the bat of catcher Anthony Hermelyn.

Tri-City scored a run in the bottom of the fifth inning as shortstop Antonio Nunez reached on a fielding error that allowed right fielder Hector Roa to score and to give the ValleyCats a 2-1 lead. That ended the day for Renegades starting pitcher Roel Ramirez, who allowed two runs and one earned run in five innings of work while striking out six batters.

Second baseman Jake Cronenworth led off the top of the eighth inning with a double and came around to score on a RBI single from shortstop Michael Russell, tying the score at 2-2. Russell moved to second base on a sacrifice bunt by left fielder Joe McCarthy and as Russell attempted to steal third base later in the inning, a throwing error by Tri-City's catcher Anthony Hermelyn allowed Russell to score, giving the Renegades a 3-2 lead. Hudson Valley extended their lead to 4-2 in the top of the ninth inning as with the bases loaded, McCarthy drove in Paez on a RBI sacrifice fly.

The win went to Hudson Valley's John Williams (1-0) as he tossed two shutout innings in relief of Ramirez. Tyler Brashears pitched a pair of scoreless frames to pick up his first save of the 2015 season. The loss went to Tri-City's Zac Grotz (3-2), who gave up two runs in an inning out of the bullpen.

Notes: Angel Moreno picked up another multi-hit effort on Friday night as the Renegades center fielder went two-for-four with a RBI. He now has multi-hit nights in three consecutive games played and 12 total on the season. The Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic native has also hit safely in seven of his last nine games played and during that stretch, he is hitting .378 (14-37) with seven RBI and seven runs scored.

Hudson Valley concludes their two-game road trip against the Tri-City ValleyCats on Saturday, August 22nd with first pitch set for 7:00pm. The Renegades return to Dutchess Stadium to host Tri-City on Sunday, August 23rd at 5:05pm.
