Summary
The IronBirds defeated the Brooklyn Cyclones, 5-1 to move into a tie for first place in the McNamara Division. Four Aberbeen hitters collected RBIs to earn the win.
Why Wait?
Cedric Mullins led off the first inning with a triple down the right field line, scoring on the very next pitch on a double by Ricardo Andujar that also went down the right field line. Two batters later, Andujar scored when Chris Shaw knocked a pitch to left field for a single. The IronBirds jump to an early 2-0 lead and never looked back.
Pulling Away
After another double by Andujar in the fifth inning, DJ Stewart pulled a single to right field to score Andujar. Stewarts RBI extended the IronBirds lead to three.
Storm Strike
Manuel Hilario started the sixth inning with a single and was scored by a Jeff Diehl on a sacrifice fly to bring the Cyclones within two.
Drew's Double Removes Doubt
Drew Turbin slapped a double in the eighth inning to score Alex Murphy from third and Mike Odenwaelder from first. Turbin's second hit of the night solidified a 5-1 win over the Cyclones.
"Hitting It Off"
The IronBirds collected 11 hits against the Cyclones including Andujar, Shaw, Laurino, and Turbin, who all collected two hits apiece.
Winding the Cyclones
Four IronBird pitchers combined to strikeout 12 Cyclone batters. Reid Love lead the staff with four strikeouts in two and two-thirds innings.
Birdwatching
Robert Strader made his sixth start of season, surrendering two hits and a walk with three strikeouts in three innings... Reid Love earned his third win of the season after pitching 2.2 innings, surrounding a run and four strikeouts... Chris Shaw, Ricardo Andujar, Steve Laurino, and Drew Turbin all had two hits... Cedric Mullins hit his second triple of the season in the first inning... DJ Stewart earned his 20thRBI of the season in the fifth inning... Ricardo Andujar hit two doubles in the game.
