DES MOINES, IA - The Iowa Stars defeated their Division rivals, the Peoria Rivermen, 3-2 Monday night at Wells Fargo Arena. The win sent the Stars to a franchise-best six game winning streak and extended their winning streak to five games on home ice. Monday's win moved the Stars into third place in the West Division.
Left wing Mathias Tjarnqvist led the offensive charge, recording two goals, including the game-winner for Iowa. His first-period lamplighter at 1:49 of the first, was the quickest goal scored by a Stars player this season. The Swedish-born forward now has nine goals and two assists in nine games for Iowa, 9(9/2/11), and has registered four multiple point games.
Vojtech Polak's first period goal pushed his point-streak to five games, tying a Stars franchise record held by Toby Petersen: 5(3/3/6).
With two assists, Junior Lessard has four points in two games and pushed his personal scoring-streak to four games: 4(2/4/6).
Stars goalie Mike Smith faced a franchise-high 48 shots in the contest, making a franchise-high 46 saves.
Attendance was 5,653.
