Texas Stars News Release
CEDAR PARK, Texas - The Texas Stars scored an extra-attacker goal late to close the gap to one, but a final push came up short in a 4-3 loss to the rival San Antonio Rampage on Friday night in preseason action at Cedar Park Center.
Branden Troock scored a pair of goals and added an assist for the Stars. Matt Mangene tallied the late goal for Texas on a slap shot from the point with just over a minute to play.
Both teams hook up on Sunday for their final tune-up of the preseason at 3 p.m. CST at Cedar Park Center.
Troy Bourke opened up the scoring on a rebound goal at 9:59 of the first, but Troock responded quickly with a wrist shot from the left circle that beat Rampage goaltender Roman Will between the legs just over a minute later. Troock made it a 2-1 lead for Texas after Jesse Blacker's point shot generated a rebound on the left side of the crease at 16:31.
San Antonio came back in the second with three straight goals to take a 4-2 lead. Andreas Martinsen stuffed home a loose puck off a faceoff at 3:07. Former Star Brock Montgomery snuck one past Philippe Desrosiers at 11:54, and Ben Street capped off the scoring run with a breakaway goal at 13:29 for the Rampage.
Maxime Lagace stopped 12 of 14 shots in the start for Texas, and Desrosiers came on midway through the second period to turn aside seven of nine shots in the loss. Roman Will finished with 20 saves on 22 shots, and Spencer Martin stopped seven of eight in relief to earn the win.
Texas finished 0-for-5 on the power play. San Antonio went 1-for-3.
The Texas Stars will begin their seventh season at Cedar Park Center on Saturday, Oct. 10. Full season, 24-game and 12-game ticket packages for the 2015-16 campaign are on sale now. For more information, call (512) GO-STARS (467-8277) or visit TexasStars.com.
