TONIGHT
After traveling to San Jose and defeating the Barracuda 4-2 Thursday night, the Stockton Heat head home to Stockton Arena to take on the Bakersfield Condors in what will be the final preseason tilt for the Heat.
The Heat will look to carry their success from the third period of last night's game especially to tonight's game against their rival Bakersfield in the first meeting of the two as AHL clubs.
WHO TO WATCH
The upgrade to the AHL has brought a ton of exciting talent to Stockton including former first round selection of the Calgary Flames Emile Poirier.
Since his selection in 2013, Poirier has turned heads with his grit and his offensive upside.
In his first full season as a pro last year, he put up 42 points in 55 games while playing in Adirondack and even played 6 games with the big club in Calgary.
Fans could see Poirier penciled in to the lineup tonight make his unofficial Heat debut and should be one of the more recognizable talents on the ice for Stockton.
FAMILIAR FACE BEHIND THE MASK
Goaltender Kent Simpson returns to action at Stockton Arena tonight as he'll get his shot at manning the crease for the Heat.
While Eric Hartzell played the entire game last night in San Jose, the plan is for Kent Simpson to play the entire game tonight so the staff can get a good look at both guys. According to Coach Huska, this was the plan for the preseason games all along.
Simpson played in 26 games for the Stockton Thunder, including the team's final ever game on April 11 last year and was signed to an AHL deal with the Heat during the offseason.
LAST NIGHTS ASSISTANT CAPTAINS
Last night in San Jose it was revealed that defensemen Aaron Johnson and Dustin Stevenson, along with forward Bryce Van Brabant were wearing the 'A' on their sweaters as assistant captains.
Johnson has a long history of leadership, captaining both the Hartford Wolf Pack and the Binghamton Senators the last two seasons respectively, while both Stevenson and Van Brabant have proven to be two of the more vocal guys in the locker room.
No word yet on a captain, or assistants for tonight's game, but these three are quality choices.
INTERESTING FACT
Last night in San Jose the Heat threw 26 shots on net. Defenseman Oliver Kylington, Dustin Stevenson, Keegan Kanzig, Ryan Constant, Taylor Doherty and Aaron Johnson combined for 11 of those shots.
Johnson led the entire team in shots on net with four followed closely by defensive partner Stevenson with three. Forwards Morgan Klimchuk, Austin Carroll, Mitchell Heard and Hunter Smith led the forward group with two on net apiece.
