San Antonio Rampage News Release
CEDAR PARK, TX (Oct. 2, 2015) - The San Antonio Rampage opened up the 2015-16 preseason on Friday night with a 4-3 win over the Texas Stars. Troy Bourke, Andreas Martinsen, Brock Montgomery and Ben Street each scored for San Antonio, while Roman Will and Spencer Martin combined to hold Texas to three goals on 30 shots. Martin, who came in near the midway point of the game, didn't allow a goal until the final 2:10 of play, when Texas pulled Philippe Desrosiers for an extra attacker.
The new-look Rampage struck first, as Bourke backhanded a rebound past the pad of Maxime Legace to give San Antonio a 1-0 lead halfway through the period. Branden Troock scored two goals to finish out the frame and send the Stars to the locker room with a 2-1 lead at the first intermission.
The floodgates opened for the Rampage in the second period, as they scored three goals to take a 4-2 lead into the second intermission. Martinsen opened the scoring frenzy, taking a pass from Colin Smith and beating Legace with a slapshot on the power play to knot the game at two. Montgomery gave the Rampage their second lead of the game at 11:54, and Street's backhand breakaway goal less than two minutes later gave the Silver and Black a 4-2 lead.
Mangene's extra-man goal with time waning in the final period would make it 4-3, but the Rampage held on for the victory.
Notes: San Antonio's starting line of Street, Martinsen and Smith combined for two goals and an assist in the win. The Rampage finished 1-for-3 on the power play while holding the Stars scoreless on five opportunities with the man advantage.
Next Up: The Rampage play their second and final test of the preseason with another tilt against the Stars on Sunday, Oct. 4 at 3 p.m. at the Cedar Park Center. San Antonio opens the 2015-16 season against the Stars on Oct. 10 at 7 p.m. and will host the Stockton Heat in their home opener on Oct. 24 at 7 p.m. at the newly-renovated AT&T Center.
