Utah Grizzlies News Release
WEST VALLEY CITY, UTAH - The Utah Grizzlies National Hockey League (NHL) affiliate, the Dallas Stars, announced today that they have traded left wing Steve Gainey to the Philadelphia Flyers in exchange for right wing Mike Siklenka and have assigned the new forward to Utah.
Siklenka, 24, has played in 18 games for the Flyers' AHL affiliate the Philadelphia Phantoms scoring a goal with five assists and 29 penalty minutes. Last season, the Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan native split time between the Flyers and the Phantoms notching 12 points (6-6 *12) and 169 penalty minutes with the Phantoms and not scoring in one game with the Flyers.
Siklenka was claimed in the NHL waiver draft by the New York Rangers earlier this season and played one game with the Rangers before being assigned to Hartford for conditioning. The Flyers claimed the 6-5, 239-pound forward off waivers on November 5th.
Gainey has played 231 career games with the Grizzlies posting 39 goals and 50 assists. This year, the Montreal, Quebec native has scored seven goals with eight assists and 69 penalty minutes. Gainey played today for the Grizzlies in their 2-1 loss to Cleveland scoring the Grizzlies only goal and earning second star honors.
The Grizzlies are off until Friday night when they host the Chicago Wolves. Face-off is scheduled for 7:05 PM.
