February 16, 2004 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Manitoba Moose News Release

The Vancouver Canucks today announced they have recalled defenceman Nolan Baumgartner (BAWMgahrt- nuhr) from the Manitoba Moose.

Baumgartner has played in 45 games with the Moose this season, scoring six goals and adding 15 assists for 21 points to rank second in team scoring among defencemen. He also has 85 penalty minutes.

Baumgartner recently tied a Moose season-high six-game scoring streak from Jan. 24 to Feb. 7 with two goals and eight assists for ten points during that stretch.

This season, the 27-year old had played in five games with the Pittsburgh Penguins and registered one point. He also collected two penalty minutes. The Calgary, AB native was claimed by Pittsburgh during the waiver draft from the Canucks back on October 3, 2003 and reclaimed off waivers by the Canucks on November 1, 2003.

With the Moose in 2002-03, Baumgartner registered 39 points (eight goals, 31 assists) with a team-high +15 rating and 82 penalty minutes in 59 AHL games. He was the team's second leading scorer among defencemen and tied for fourth in team scoring. At year's end, he was voted the team's most outstanding defenceman. He appeared in one playoff game for the Moose last season.

Last year with Vancouver, Baumgartner recorded three points (1 goal, 2 assists), a +4 rating and four penalty minutes in eight games. He saw action in two post-season games with the Canucks.

This is Baumgartner's first recall to the Canucks this season. He was originally drafted by the Washington Capitals in the first round, 10th overall, in the 1994 NHL entry draft.
