Canucks acquire Peter Sarno for Tyler Moss

The Vancouver Canucks, the NHL affiliate of the Manitoba Moose, announced today they have acquired centre Peter Sarno from the Edmonton Oilers in exchange for goaltender Tyler Moss. Vancouver then directly assigned Sarno to the Moose.

So far in 2003-04, Moss has played in 32 games. He has a 10-16-5 record with a 2.90 goals-against average and .897 save percentage. Earlier this season he set a franchise record with 177:32 consecutive shutout minutes from December 16-21.

The 28-year-old Ottawa native played in a team record 42 games for Manitoba in 2002-03 and was named the team's Most Valuable Player and Three Star Champion. He posted a 21-15-5 record with a 2.81 GAA and a save percentage of .909. He tied a team record with five ties last season and set new Moose playoff records with 10 appearances and six wins. He finished the post-season with a goals-against average of 2.23 and a .922 save percentage. He also appeared in one game with the Canucks last season and posted a 2.73 GAA.

Peter Sarno has played in 31 games this season for the Toronto Roadrunners. During that time, he scored six goals and added 12 assists for 18 points and 29 PIM. He also played six games for the Edmonton Oilers, netting two PIM and scoring his first career NHL goal on November 4/03 against the Montreal Canadiens.

The 24-year-old native of Toronto played last season for the Espoo Blues in Finland, and was third in team scoring recording 40 points (17 goals, 23 assists) in 45 games. Previous to that, he played for the Hamilton Bulldogs of the American Hockey League from 1999-2002, recording 42 goals and 123 assists for 165 points and 135 penalty minutes in 230 games. Sarno led the Ontario Hockey League in scoring in 1997-98 with Windsor (33g, 88a, 121pts in 64gp) and also in 1998-99 with Sarnia (37g, 93a, 130pts in 68gp).
