Hamel recalled to Ottawa, two signed to PTOs

BINGHAMTON, New York – The Ottawa Senators Sunday recalled forward Denis Hamel from the Binghamton Senators of the American Hockey League (AHL) on an emergency basis. Hamel replaces Chris Kelly, who is out day-to-day with a bruised left kneecap.

The recall is Hamel's fourth of the season. In three games with Ottawa, he has no points, three shots and a -3 +/- rating. Earlier this season, Hamel made his Senators debut against the Atlanta Thrashers (Nov. 11).

Hamel, 26, has 47 points (21-26), 87 penalty minutes and a +7 +/- rating in 53 games with Binghamton this season. He is currently first in goals, assists and points with Binghamton.

The Binghamton Senators also announced that forwards Nathan Gillies and Chris Pittman have been signed to 25-game professional try-out agreements.

Gillies and Pittman will be entering their second stint with Binghamton after each saw action in one game with the club in January. Pittman drew an assist in the B-Sens 3-1 loss at Providence on January 19th while Gillies was pointless in his only contest, a 3-0 loss at Albany January 23rd.

Gillies, a 5'10, 190 lb. first year pro from Cambridge, ON, is sixth in scoring on the Elmira Jackals (UHL) with 28 points and his 17 goals ranks third on the club.

Pittman has combined to appear in 48 games split between Columbia and Trenton (ECHL) and has 15 goals and 36 points overall along with 52 PIM.

Gillies and Pittman will join the club today as the B-Sens travel to Wilkes-Barre today for a 5:05 p.m. faceoff against the Penguins.
