Milwaukee Admirals News Release
The Milwaukee Admirals enter this week's action with seven straight victories and have outscored their adversaries 28-10 over those contests. This is the first time the Admirals have strung together seven consecutive victories since November 1st through November 18th, 1995. The Admirals franchise record for consecutive wins in eight, which was established from March 10 through the 22nd, 1989. The Ads have also picked up at least one point in each of the last nine games (8-0-0-1) and are 10-1-2-1 (.821) over the last 14 contests. The Ads are also 7-0-1 in the last eight Bradley Center games outscoring their foes, 28-11. Milwaukee enters this week's action in second place in the AHL's West Division seven points behind the Grand Rapids Griffins and three points ahead of the third place Chicago Wolves.
THE WEEK AHEAD:
CHICAGO...This is the seventh of ten meetings and the fourth in Milwaukee versus Chicago. The Admirals are 5-1 against the Wolves outscoring them 19-9 overall and 3-0 on home ice outscoring them 13-4.
HOUSTON...Coming into this Friday's contest, the Admirals are 6-1 on the year against the Aeros. The game will mark the eighth of ten contests the two teams will play this year. Houston won the first game, Oct. 17, and the Ads have won the last six.
GRAND RAPIDS...The Admirals are 1-3-1 vs. the Griffins and 0-1 in Grand Rapids. This is the first of three remaining games at the Van Andel Arena. The Admirals are 1-0-1 in the last two meetings vs. Grand Rapids.
SAN ANTONIO...The Admirals are 4-1 vs. the Rampage this season and 1-1 at the Bradley Center. The Ads are 9-4-2 lifetime vs. San Antonio, including 5-1-1-0 on home ice.
LAST WEEK'S ACTION...The Admirals completed an unblemished five-game homestand for the second time in franchise history. The only other time was October 20th through November 5th, 1999. On Sunday afternoon, the Admirals broke a 14-game (0-8-5-1) Cincinnati Gardens winless streak with a 3-1 victory over the Mighty Ducks. Simon Gamache scored a pair of goals and Brian Finley stopped 33 of 34 shots. Against the Wolves, the Admirals took a 2-0 lead on Saturday afternoon and hung on to win, 2-1. Darren Haydar had a pair of assists, Timofei Shishkanov scored the game winner and Wade Flaherty stopped 27 shots. On Wednesday night, Curtis Murphy (1g-1a) and Mathieu Darche (2a) scored two points each of Brian Finley stopped 32 of 35 shots leading Milwaukee to a 4-3 victory over the Houston Aeros.
WHO'S OFFENSIVE! The Admirals feature the AHL's most potent offensive generating 3.25 goals per game. Twenty-three different Admirals have produced the team's 166 goals. Milwaukee's lineup features six players with at least 30 points and 16 players have scored in double figures. Tony Hrkac leads Admirals scorers with 39 points and playmakers with 28 assists. Mathieu Darche tops Admirals' goal scorers with 21 red-lighters. Simon Gamache has a three-game scoring streak (3g-1a) and has 11 points (4g-7a) over his last ten outings. Twenty-year old rookie Shishkanov has six goals over his last seven games.
ROOKIE WATCH...Shishkanov leads AHL rookies with 19 goals and ranks second among first year players with 36 points. The 6'1", 213-pound Moscow native leads the AHL in plus/minus rating with a +20. Shishkanov was a second round draft pick of the Predators in the 2001 NHL Draft.
TERRIFIC TANDEM...The Admirals are allowing 2.33 goals per game, which ranks eight among AHL teams. Since January 1st, the goaltending tandem of veteran Wade Flaherty and the 22-year old Brian Finley has allowed only 43 goals in 21 games for an impressive 2.03 goals against average (GAA). Flaherty ranks sixth among AHL goalies with a stingy 1.94 GAA. The 36-year old, Terrace, B.C. native has won three straight games and brings a 13-6-2 record and a .927 save percentage into this week's action. Finley is unbeaten (6-0-1) in his last seven starts, including a 1.84 GAA and a .935 save percentage. The Sault Ste. Marie, Ont. native enters tonight's action with a 13-11-4 record, a 2.50 GAA and a .912 save percentage.
ROAD WARRIORS.... The Admirals have the second best road record in the AHL with an impressive 13-6-3-3 (.640) mark on foreign ice. Milwaukee is 3-1-1-1 in their last six road games, 6-3-1-1 in the past 11 and are 10-5-1-1 in the last 17 road outings.
POTENT POWER PLAY...The Admirals rank 14th among AHL teams on the power play scoring 43 goals in 293 chances (14.7%). Over the last eight games, the Admirals have scored on 27.1% (13 of 48) of their power play opportunities and in the last 12 contests the Ads have 16 power play goals in 65 attempts for a 24.6% success rate. Tiley leads Admirals' scorers on the power play with 19 points (6g-13a) and Darche leads the Ads with seven power play goals.
LEADING BLUELINERS...Curtis Murphy (9g-21a) and Brad Tiley (7g-22a) have 30 and 29 points respectively and rank among league leading defensemen. Murphy, who won the Eddie Shore Award last season as the AHL's Outstanding Defenseman, is also among AHL leaders with a +18 plus/minus rating. Tiley, who won the Eddie Shore Award during the 1999-2000 season, is five points shy of the 500 career point mark with 495 points (131g-364a) in 864 career regular season frays.
SONICFLOOD...Sunday, February 22nd is Faith and Family Day with the Admirals. National Christian Recording Artist SONICFLOOD will perform in a pre-game concert event at 2:15 p.m. prior to the Admirals game with the San Antonio Rampage.
