Harrisburg Senators News Release

Harrisburg, PA - RHP Craig Stammen delivered one of the best starts of the year by any Senator, firing seven shutout innings as Harrisburg edged the Bowie Baysox, 1-0, Saturday at Commerce Bank Park. With the win, the Senators tied the Baysox for second place in the Eastern League Southern Division.

Stammen and Bowie RHP David Hernandez locked horns in a pitchers' duel. Stammen allowed just two Baysox runners to reach scoring position.

The game was scoreless until the bottom of the 5th. Javi Herrera drew a leadoff walk and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Marco Yepez. Seth Bynum drilled an RBI double off the fence in right-center to give the Senators a 1-0 lead.

Stammen faced just two over the minimum and locked in during the latter stages of his appearance. The right-hander retired 14 straight Baysox, a stretch that was snapped on Nolan Reimold's infield single in the top of the 7th. Reimold stole second but was stranded when Matt Wieters flied out to center to end the threat.

The Baysox started a rally with two out in the 8th inning. LHP Yunior Novoa walked Carlos Rojas and gave up a single to Blake Davis, then walked pinch hitter Steve Torrealba. RHP Steve Schmoll came on and induced an inning-ending groundout. He then worked a 1-2-3 9th inning to close it out.

Stammen picked up the win to move to 2-1 with Harrisburg. Hernandez absorbed the hard-luck loss to fall to 5-2, despite going six strong innings. Schmoll notched his 5th save of the year.

The Senators improved to 52-41. The Baysox dipped to 53-42.

The Senators and Baysox continue the four-game series Sunday at Commerce Bank Park in a 1:05 PM start. RHP Bobby Brownlie (7-0, 3.36 ERA) starts for Harrisburg. Bowie's starter is still to be announced.
