Connecticut Defenders News Release

NORWICH, CT - Although the November Presidential election is still quite awhile away, the baseball fans of Southeastern CT have had their say and they are clearly on the side of presumed Democratic nominee Barack Obama. The Connecticut Defenders, in conjunction with sponsors Pepsi and Fox News 61, conducted a T-Shirt poll this Saturday evening with the first 1,000 fans 18 and over entering Dodd Stadium having a choice of a blue Obama shirt or a red McCain shirt.

Defenders fans preferred the Illinois Senator over the presumed nominee from Arizona, Senator John McCain by a margin of 59%-41%. Approximately 10% of the adults that were offered the choice of shirts declined the offer.

"All elections are important, but this upcoming November is shaping up to be a pivotal choice for Americans. We wanted to combine some fun with the process of invoking thought about who to vote for. We are surprised at what a resounding victory Senator Obama posted in our poll. We remain neutral (at least professionally) and we encourage everybody with the right to vote to exercise their choice this coming November 4th," said Defenders General Manager Charlie Dowd.

The Defenders, are the AA affiliate of the San Francisco Giants. The team joined with sponsors Fox News 61 and Pepsi to present this poll.

Fans had a great time with the giveaway and there was a significant amount of good natured ribbing amongst friends as they made their selections.

Defenders managing partner Lou DiBella was thrilled with the event. "We will continue to strive to present the best in sports entertainment in the region. We are proud of this promotion and hopeful that our fans enjoy the value that the Defenders represent."

The Defender are back in action tomorrow at 1:05pm as they host the New Hampshire Fisher Cats. For more information or the purchase tickets, call the Defenders at (860)-887-7962.
