Connecticut Defenders News Release
NORWICH, CT- What at day makes? Coming off an 18 run onslaught, the Connecticut Defenders fell to New Hampshire 4-3 at Dodd Stadium tonight.
The Defenders would start were they left off last night striking first in the bottom of the first. Eddy Martinez-Esteve delivered an RBI ground out to drive in Kyle Haines who had a leadoff walk to give CT the early 1-0 lead.
New Hampshire would climb back in the third. After getting himself into a bases loaded jam, CT starter Joey Martinez got Eric Nielsen to hit into the friendly 1-2-3 double play. Almost out of the woods was Martinez but he left one hanging to Travis Snider who made him pay with a monster three run homer (14th) for a Fisher Cats 3-1 lead.
The F-Cats would muster a solo run in the fourth frame on a Ryan Klosterman double to drive in Butler who drew a two out walk. New Hampshire improved their lead to 4-1.
The Defenders would mount a comeback in the seventh. A leadoff single by Rohlinger got things started for CT as he would quickly be brought in on an RBI double off the bat of Olmo Rosario. Antoan Richardson, in a tough at bat won the battle as he slapped a double of his own down the left field line to bring in Rosario and make it a 4-3 lead for New Hampshire.
The Cats would hold off the Defenders rally attempts in the eighth and ninth as closer Zach Dials picked up his 13th save of the season.
Martinez suffered his seventh loss, hurling just five innings while rendering four earned runs off of 6 hits, walking three and striking out three.
Brandon Magee improved to 2-11 with a six and two thirds innings of work. He allowed just three runs off of six hits while he struck out one and walked three.
The Defenders will battle the Fisher Cats tomorrow in game 3 with the first pitch scheduled for 1:05pm. For more information or to purchase tickets, call the Defenders at (860)-887-7962 or on the web at www.ctdefenders.com.
