Brian Bruney To Make Major League Rehab Stint For Thunder

(Trenton, NJ)- The Trenton Thunder, Double-A Affiliate of the New York Yankees, have announced that RHP Brian Bruney has been added to the Thunder roster for a Major League Rehabilitation stint courtesy of St. Lawrence Rehabilitation Center in Lawrenceville, NJ. St. Lawrence Rehabilitation Center is the presenting partner for all Major League rehab player appearances at Waterfront Park. The Thunder have also announced that INF Walter Ibarra has been transferred to the Thunder roster from Staten Island (New York-Penn League). INF Ramiro Pena has been placed on the Temporary Inactive List for his participation in the Futures Game at Yankee Stadium.

Bruney was 1-0 with a 1.59 ERA in 9 G for the Yankees prior to being placed on the Disabled List on April 25th. He was placed on the Disabled List with a Lisfranc injury to his right foot. Last season, he went 3-2 with a 4.68 ERA in 58 games for the Yankees. He also was 2-0 with a 6.00 ERA in four games with one save for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (Triple-A). In 2006, Bruney was 1-1 with a 0.87 ERA in 19 games for the Yankees. He was signed by the Yankees on 7/1/06, after being released by the Arizona Diamondbacks on 5/24/06. Bruney appeared in a total of 77 games for Arizona between 2004-05. He had a record of 8-10 with a 4.93 ERA in 154 Major League games entering the 2008 season. He was originally selected by the Diamondbacks in the 12th round of the 2000 draft.

Pena will be playing for the World Team in the Futures Game on Sunday afternoon. Pena is hitting .272 in 82 G with two home runs and 38 RBI this season for Trenton. During the month of June, he had a .305 BA in 26 games with one home run and 12 RBI. During 2007, Pena hit .252 with 10 RBI in 52 games. He also appeared in 26 games for the Thunder in the 2006 season. He had a .198 in 26 G with 6 RBI. He was signed by the Yankees as a free agent on 2/18/05.

Ibarra has split the season between Charleston (Low-A) and Staten Island. He started the season with the River Dogs and had a .198 BA in 27 G with one home run and 13 RBI. In 12 games for Staten Island, he has hit .224 with two home runs and six RBI. Last season, he split the season between Tampa (High-A) and the Gulf Coast League Yankees. He hit .179 in 10 games for Tampa. He had a .205 BA in 16 G for the Gulf Coast League Yankees with four RBI. He was signed as a non-drafted free agent by the Yankees on 8/23/05.

Trenton plays the second game of a four-game series tonight against the Binghamton Mets, the Double-A affiliate of the New York Mets, at Waterfront Park. Game time is set for 7:05 P.M.
