-SPIKES FACE DOUBLEDAYS IN MIDDLE GAME OF ROAD SERIES: The State College Spikes look for their fourth straight win as they face the Auburn Doubledays in the second game of a three-game set. The Spikes are 31-40 all-time against the Doubledays, including a 16-20 mark at Falcon Park in Auburn. In 2006, the last time the Spikes came into Central New York as a Cardinals affiliate, State College only took one of five games from Auburn at Falcon Park. The Doubledays were a Toronto Blue Jays affiliate at the time.

-LAST NIGHT: Carson Kelly smashed a pair of doubles and Alex De Leon notched his first two runs batted in as a professional as the Spikes opened up a six-run lead in the sixth inning and held on to take a 7-5 victory from the Doubledays at Falcon Park. The Spikes used a pair of big innings to fuel the offensive outburst, forcing the Doubledays to use four different pitchers over the fifth and sixth innings in the process. Ben O'Shea picked up his first win of the season in his debut for State College after hurling for the Batavia Muckdogs last year. The lefty also fanned a season-high six. Brady Adamek got the six-out save, the first of his pro career.

-PETREE MAKES MOUND DEBUT IN PROS FOR SPIKES: Right-hander Nick Petree makes the first pitching appearance of his professional career tonight as he starts for State College. The Cardinals made Petree their ninth-round draft choice just two weeks ago out of Missouri State. With the Bears, the Clinton, MO native was a three-time All-American and won the Collegiate Baseball National Player of the Year Award in 2012 after leading all NCAA Division I pitchers with a 1.01 ERA. Petree led the Missouri Valley Conference in strikeouts in 2013 as well

-LOPEZ GETS THE BALL FOR DOUBLEDAYS THIS EVENING: Right-hander Reynaldo Lopez makes his second start on the mound as a professional in the United States tonight for Auburn. Lopez last pitched with the Nationals' Single-A affiliate in Hagerstown on June 15, going four innings and yielding three runs on eight hits and a walk while striking out four. A native of San Pedro de Macoris in the Dominican Republic, Lopez spent 2012 with the Dominican Summer League Nationa, going 1-1 with one save and a 3.38 ERA over five relief appearances.

-VALERA REVS UP EARLY THIS SEASON: Spikes shortstop Cesar Valera is off to a hot start in 2013, leading the New York-Penn League with eight hits in his first four games. Valera's .421 average is also in the top ten in the league, and his four extra-base hits trail only Zach Green of Williamsport for first in the loop. Valera put together a four-hit game on June 18 at Williamsport, and is tied for the Spikes team lead in runs scored, doubles while holding the lead himself in slugging percentage.

-SPIKE MARKS: The Spikes are hitting .301 as a team and reaching base at a .368 clip through four games, putting them just behind undefeated Tri-City for the NYPL lead in both categories...Only Aberdeen has matched the Spikes' strikeout total of 39 thus far in the year...The Spikes have still not seen a left-handed starting pitcher...This 2013 team is the first in franchise history to be 3-1 after four games
