
Brault's Strong Start Not Enough as IronBirds Lose 4-2

Brooklyn, NY- The Aberdeen IronBirds held a 2-0 lead through five innings, but the Cyclones put up a pair of runs in both the sixth and seventh innings to beat the IronBirds 4-2 Friday night at MCU Park.
Aberdeen got off to a great start, as Austin Wynns singled home Trey Mancini in the top of the second for a 1-0 lead.
The IronBirds would double their lead in the fifth. Jeff Kemp would lead off with a single, his first hit as an IronBird, and would later come in to score on a Hector Veloz RBI single, making it 2-0 in favor of the visitors.
Steven Brault got the start for the IronBirds in his minor league debut. Brault went five innings plus two batters, allowed six hits, two runs (both earned), walking none and striking out five.
He would leave in the sixth inning with a 2-0 lead and runners on first and third with no outs.
Janser Severino relieved him, but both runs would score. L.J. Mazzilli stoked an RBI double, and the second run scored on a wild pitch.
Brooklyn would take the lead for good in the seventh, as they sent eight batters to the plate, collecting four hits, and they left the bases loaded.
Severino takes the loss for the IronBirds. He falls to 0-1 on the season. He pitched two innings, gave up five hits, two (earned) runs, walking one and fanning three. Jimmy Yacabonis pitched the eighth inning, giving up a hit and a walk, striking out one.
Akeel Morris got the win in relief for the Cyclones. He pitched three and two thirds innings, allowed just one hit, walking one and fanning seven IronBirds hitters. John Mincone recorded the final out of the game and earned his second save of the season.
The series finale is tomorrow. Sebastian Vader (0-1, 3.60) will get his second start of the season.
He will oppose Seth Lugo (0-0, HNP). First pitch from MCU Park is slated for 6:30 p.m.
