South Bay Lakers News Release
EL SEGUNDO - The South Bay Lakers beat the Sioux Falls Skyforce in a back-and-forth affair, 124-119, on Saturday night. Alex Caruso, Jemerrio Jones and Johnathan Williams all tallied double-doubles for South Bay (9-9) in the win. Yante Maten paced the Skyforce (11-6) with 30 points and 17 rebounds.
Marcus Allen got the Lakers off to a good start with 10 points in the opening frame, but Sioux Falls took a slight 28-27 lead through one. Maten pitched in 12 points in the second as the Skyforce took a 56-51 lead at the half.
A 37-point third quarter helped the Lakers cut into the deficit, as nine points from Williams helped South Bay get within two, 90-88, after three. The Lakers scored 36 points in the fourth quarter, 10 of which came from Travis Wear, as they finished off the Skyforce to get the win.
Maten's double-double led the way for Sioux Falls while DeAndre Liggins tallied seven points with 13 assists. Bubu Palo (17 points), Raphiael Putney (15 points) and Rodney Purvis (12 points) all scored in double figures off the bench. Briante Weber (14 points, seven assists) and Duncan Robinson (12 points) also scored in double figures for the Skyforce.
Wear scored a team-high 22 points for the Lakers in a game that saw 20 lead changes, but it was the trio of double-doubles that gave the Lakers the win. Caruso grabbed his second of the season (17 points, 12 assists), Jones recorded his fifth of the year (16 points, 11 rebounds) and Williams tallied the 10th of his career with 15 points and 13 rebounds to go along with two steals and two blocks. Allen scored 15 points and Joel Berry II added 13 points for the Lakers.
South Bay will now travel to Las Vegas for the MGM Resorts Winter Showcase where they will play a pair of games. The Lakers will first face the Greensboro Swarm on Thursday, December 20 at 2:30pm PT from the Mandalay Bay Events Center.
