Santa Cruz Warriors News Release
SANTA CRUZ, CA - The Santa Cruz Warriors (11-4) held one of the best offenses in the NBA G League to 18 points in the fourth quarter, spurring a 94-89 win over the Sioux Falls Skyforce (11-5) tonight at Kaiser Permanente Arena. The Warriors took the win behind a game-high 28 points from guard Kendrick Nunn, his eighth game this season leading the team in scoring as a reserve.
Helping Nunn in the scoring department was Golden State Warriors two-way forward Marcus Derrickson, who had 21 points on 8-of-14 from the field. Guard Will Cherry once again filled the stat sheet with 12 points, seven rebounds and eight assists in a game-high 38 minutes.
The Skyforce were led by Miami Heat two-way forward Duncan Robinson, who had a team-high 25 points on 7-of-12 from behind the arc. Forward Jarnell Stokes earned his first start of the season tonight, logging 16 points and 13 rebounds in 34 minutes.
Santa Cruz opened the game shooting seven-of-nine from the field (77.8 FG%) to take an 18-12 lead five minutes into the game. Guard Michael Gbinije, who made his return to the court after missing the last four games with a neck contusion, had ten points in the first half thanks to shooting four-of-six from the field.
Robinson kept the Skyforce in the game by scoring nine in the first, all on threes, to keep the score tied at 26 after the first. Robinson then went on a personal 9-0 run to end the half with three straight three pointers to give Sioux Falls a 47-43 halftime lead.
Despite Robinson's sizzling outside shooting in the first half, Sioux Falls only shot 2-of-15 from deep the remainder of the game. Derrickson and Cherry led a 10-2 run to tie the game in the third quarter, punctuated by Cherry's acrobatic finish in the lane, and Nunn contributed 10 points in a 20-4 fourth-quarter run to ground the Skyforce.
The Warriors will complete their weekend back-to-back tomorrow night against the Erie Bayhawks on Pajama Night. Fans are encouraged to wear their favorite PJ's and to bring a new pair to donate to Project Pajamas, which benefits children living in 'outside the home settings' in foster homes and homeless shelters.
