Windy City Bulls News Release
The Windy City Bulls, presented by BMO Harris Bank, the NBA G League affiliate of the Chicago Bulls, collected their second consecutive win with a 111-103 victory over the Capital City Go-Go on Saturday night at Sears Centre Arena.
Six Bulls players scored in double figures led by JaKarr Sampson who tallied his fourth consecutive 20-point game and posted 21 points on 6-of-11 shooting. Mychal Mulder tallied 20 points and made six three-pointers, while CJ Fair recorded his fifth double-double of the season with 17 points, career-high 18 rebounds, seven assists and three blocks. Walt Lemon Jr. and Joe Kilgore each had 14 points and Kaiser Gates added 11 points and two rebounds off the bench.
Jordan McRae and Washington Wizards assignment player, Troy Brown Jr., led the way for Capital City with 20 points apiece. Okaro White, the second Wizards assignee, recorded his third double-double of the season with 14 points and 11 rebounds, while Devin Robinson posted 13 points and six rebounds in a reserve role. Darel Poirier totaled 11 points and four rebounds and Chris Chiozza pitched in with 10 points and six assists.
Windy City's offense was in sync early as they made four of their first six field goals and raced out to an early 10-4 led. Mulder and Sampson had the hot hand at the outset as the pair combined to score 18 points in the quarter, including the Bulls first 13 points of the game. Windy City increased their lead to double figures and it eventually swelled to 12 on a three-pointer by Mulder with 1:28 remaining in the stanza. Capital City struggled from the floor and shot 30 percent while making just eight field goals. In total, Windy City shot 50 percent and for the second consecutive night, they lead at the end of the opening 12 minutes, 31-20.
The Bulls offensive success persisted in the second quarter, as they began the period with seven consecutive points to extend their lead to 18, which was the largest of the first half. Windy City maintained a double-digit advantage throughout as the Go-Go cut the lead to 10 on a couple occasions but were unable to slice it inside single digits. Windy City closed the half by scoring the final six points on back-to-back threes by Gates and Mulder with the latter beating the halftime buzzer. In total, Windy City shot 54 percent in the first half and lead 63-46 at the intermission.
Sampson scored the opening basket of the second half to push the lead to 19, but Capital City cut into it by slicing seven points off the advantage to make it a 71-58 game with 8:27 to play in the third quarter. However, Windy City responded with a 9-2 run and totaled their largest lead of the night at 20 on back-to-back driving layups by Lemon. The third period was a game of runs as the Go-Go followed with a 12-2 spurt of their own to make it a 10-point game. Once more, Capital City was unable to cut further into the lead and trailed by double figures. The Go-Go outscored the Bulls by six in the quarter, but Windy City led 85-74 heading into the final 12 minutes.
Windy City scored the opening five points of the fourth quarter and led by 16 with under 10 minutes left to play in the game. Sampson, who was hampered by foul trouble, made his presence felt as he collected 10 of his 21 points in the final frame. Inside of five minutes remaining in the contest, Capital City scored six points to make it a 96-87 game, which forced a Bulls timeout. The nine-point deficit late in the fourth quarter was the first time Capital City was within single digits since the score read 29-20 late in the first quarter. Despite the late push, Windy City extended their lead back to double figures, set a season-high in points and won 111-103.
With the win, Windy City has won two consecutive games for the first time since winning three straight from Nov. 16-21. Additionally, the Bulls have collected their first two-game home winning streak since March 7-11, 2018.
Windy City will enjoy three days off before heading to Las Vegas for the 2018 NBA G League Showcase. The Bulls have games on Dec. 19th against Northern Arizona and Dec. 21st versus Iowa. Tip-off against the Suns is set for 9:30pm CT at Mandalay Bay Events Center.
