
Austin Spurs Acquire Demetri McCamey

AUSTIN - The Austin Spurs, presented by SWBC, today announced that they have acquired guard Demetri McCamey.
McCamey was originally selected by the Austin Spurs in the second round of the 2015 NBA G League Draft and spent two seasons with the Silver and Black. In the 2015-16 season, he averaged 9.1 points, 2.5 rebounds and 2.3 assists in 25.1 minutes over 49 games. During the 2016-17 season, the 6-3 guard averaged 5.6 points, 2.1 assists and 1.8 rebounds in 17.0 minutes over 41 games.
After playing four seasons for the University of Illinois from 2007-11, McCamey went overseas and split the season with Mersin Buyuksehir Belediyesi in Turkey and Hapoel Jerusalem in Israel. The next season, he joined the Chicago Bulls for the 2012 Summer League and signed with the Houston Rockets for training camp before being acquired by the Rio Grande Valley Vipers of the G League. He split the 2012-13 season between the Vipers, Erie BayHawks and Fort Wayne Mad Ants.
He then headed back overseas for the next season, spending time with the Cairns Taipans of Australia during the 2013-14 campaign and the Oita Heat Devils in Japan in 2014-15. After his two-year stint in Austin, the Illinois product most recently suited up abroad with Fortitudo Bologna in Italy, where he averaged 8.1 points, 1.9 rebounds and 1.6 assists in 19.4 minutes over 34 games.
McCamey will be available for the Austin Spurs tonight as they take on the Iowa Wolves for their annual Season of Giving game at 7 p.m. at the H-E-B Center at Cedar Park.
In a related move, Austin has waived Connor Burchfield.
