Sounds Power Past Redbirds in Series Finale, 5-3

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Nashville Sounds homered twice en route to a 5-3 victory over the Memphis Redbirds in the finale of a four-game series on Sunday afternoon at AutoZone Park.

Nashville (21-40) entered the series with the worst record in the PCL and took three of four from first-place Memphis (32-30). It was Nashville's first winning road series of the year.

All five Nashville runs were scored on home runs from Caleb Gindl and the red-hot Hunter Morris, who went yard for the third time in two games.

The three runs scored by the Redbirds were the most scored in the season series. Seven of the eight games between the Tennessee rivals have been decided by two runs or less.

Milwaukee Brewers rehabber and former Redbirds left-hander Chris Narveson gave up three runs on five hits with four strikeouts in 4 1/3 innings. Zach Kroenke (3-8) followed with three scoreless for the win.

Redbirds right-hander and former Memphis Tiger Scott McGregor (1-3) yielded five runs (four earned) on eight hits and a pair of home runs in six innings for the loss.

Memphis jumped on the board to take a 2-0 lead in the in the bottom of the second. With Jamie Romak on first, Jermaine Curtis lined a two-run blast over the left wall. The home run was Curtis' third of the season.

Morris answered with a game-tying two-run home run blast in the trees to dead center in the next frame, his team-leading 13th of the season.

Consecutive doubles by Ryan Jackson and Justin Christian pushed Memphis back ahead at 3-2 in the third.

McGregor got into trouble in the fifth, letting the first two batters reach before Gindl hit a three-run home run just beyond the reach of Romak and off the top of the right field wall.

With two runners in scoring position in the bottom of the ninth and the go-ahead run at the dish, Rob Wooten froze Brock Peterson for the game-ending strikeout and his 10th save.

Sam Freeman walked three and struck out four over two scoreless frames. Michael Blazek struck out two over a perfect ninth inning.

The Redbirds continue their homestand tomorrow and welcome the New Orleans Zephyrs (Triple-A Marlins) to AutoZone Park for a six-game series over the next four days. The two teams will resume their suspended game from April 10 tomorrow at 6:05 p.m. and play a regularly scheduled nine-inning contest approximately 30 minutes afterwards.

Right-hander Maikel Cleto (2-2, 5.67) will toe the rubber for Memphis against Zephyrs right-hander Jared Rogers (0-1, 4.66).
