Tucson Padres News Release
The Tucson Padres hit three home runs Saturday but were unable to pick up the victory, as the Sacramento River Cats won 10-5 at Kino Stadium. The Padres (33-29) are now in a second place tie with Las Vegas, three games out of first.
After Grant Green cashed in on Jemile Week's lead-off triple with an RBI single, the River Cats scored three more runs in the opening inning to take 4-0 lead. Luke Montz's eighth home run of the year in the third extended Sacramento's advantage to five runs. The River Cats added three more runs in the fourth in a rally highlighted by Shane Peterson's second two-run single of the game. Peterson finished the night 3-for-5 with four RBIs while Grant Green went 4-for-5 with two RBIs. Sacramento scored twice in the fifth, but was held scoreless for the remainder of the game.
Rene Rivera launched a solo home run onto the berm past left field in the sixth to put the Padres on the scoreboard. Dean Anna's team-leading eighth home run, a two-run shot in the eighth, cut the deficit to seven. Brandon Allen hit a towering home run into the right field bullpen in the eighth for Tucson's third and final home run.
Bruce Billings won his Pacific Coast League leading eighth game after going six innings and allowing only one run and four hits. Matt Branham, who was making his Triple-A debut, lost after surrendering five runs on seven hits in three innings of work.
