Reno Aces News Release
RENO, Nev.-RHP Zeke Spruill threw a complete game shutout on Sunday afternoon, leading the Reno Aces to a 4-0 victory in the series finale against the Colorado Springs Sky Sox at Aces Ballpark.
Spruill did not allow a hit until the fifth, when he gave up three singles. The righty gave up just five hits on the afternoon in his first complete game shutout since 2011 with Class-A Lynchburg. He earned his first win since his Triple-A debut on May 2.
A dramatic ninth inning saw runners at the corners with two outs, but the Aces successfully retired Ben Paulsen to end the game.
The only other nine inning complete game shutout by an Aces pitcher was a performance by Billy Buckner on July 31, 2009 at Tacoma.
The stellar pitching performance was aided by three home runs to boost the Aces to victory. Chris Owings hit his first professional career inside-the-park home run in the first to grab an early lead, and Matt Davidson added a solo shot of his own, for a two-run first. Tyler Kuhn's first home run of the season came in the eighth, a two-run shot to extend the lead to 4-0.
At the plate for Reno, each batter in the starting line-up recorded at least one hit, and six players recorded a multi-hit game. The 18 hits belted out by Reno was just one shy of the season high of 19 on May 14 versus Iowa.
The homestand continues tomorrow, as the Aces face the Sacramento River Cats for a four-game series. RHP Chase Anderson (3-6, 5.49 ERA) gets the nod for Reno, while the River Cats will counter with RHP Travis Banwart (3-2, 4.70 ERA). First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. for another Margarita Monday presented by Alice @ 96.5.
Tickets are on sale for Sunday's game, and all Aces home games, at RenoAces.com, by calling (775) 334-7000 or by visiting the Aces Ballpark Ticket Office.
