TACOMA, Wash. - The Tacoma Rainiers collected 15 hits and starting pitcher Erasmo Ramirez turned in 7.0 shutout innings in an 11-0 rout of the Las Vegas 51s at Cheney Stadium on Saturday.
Rich Poythress led the charge on offense after collecting three hits and driving in four runs for the Rainiers. The first baseman recorded an RBI single in the second inning to stretch a 1-0 Tacoma lead to two runs. He later drove in two more with a double in the third and hit another RBI single in the fifth.
Shortstop Brad Miller was also responsible for driving in four runs, beginning with a two-out, three-run home run in the fourth inning - his third with the Rainiers this season. He ended the night 2-for-4 to extend his hitting streak to nine games.
Catcher Mike Zunino equaled a season-high after collecting three hits with a double and two singles. Dustin Ackley hit an RBI single in the first inning to put Tacoma up 1-0 and extended his hitting streak to 11 games.
Ramirez (1-1) limited the 51s to just five hits over 7.0 scoreless innings in his second start for the Rainiers and his third overall this season. The right-hander struck out a season-high seven batters and issued one walk en route to collecting the first win of his 2013 campaign.
At 38-25, Tacoma owns the best record in the Pacific Coast League and maintains a 2.5-game lead over the Colorado Springs Sky Sox for first place in the PCL Pacific Northern Division.
The Rainiers look to secure a series win the final game of the team's four-game series with Las Vegas tomorrow, June 9. Right-hander Brandon Maurer (0-0, 1.35) is scheduled to start for Tacoma against 51s right-hander Carlos Torres (5-3, 4.91). First pitch is scheduled for 1:35 p.m.
