Durham Bulls News Release
DURHAM, NC - Bulls catcher Rene Pinto and first baseman Tristan Gray both clubbed run-scoring doubles in the fourth inning, however the Sounds' three-run third inning was enough as three Nashville relievers combined for four scoreless innings in a 3-2 victory over Durham on Saturday evening at Durham Bulls Athletic Park.
The Sounds plated all three of their runs in the third inning thanks to back-to-back RBI singles from CF Sal Frelick and LF Esteury Ruiz, along with a bases-loaded walk drawn by RF Joey Wiemer. Pinto and Gray would later smash run-scoring two-baggers in the fourth to narrow the deficit to 3-2, however the Bulls were unable to fully erase the deficit.
Nashville C Mario Feliciano (2-4, R, 2B) was the lone batter from either side to record a multi-hit effort. Durham infielder Jonathan Aranda struck out as a pinch hitter in the ninth inning, ending his 2022 team-best 15-game hit streak. 2B Miles Mastrobuoni, meanwhile, smashed a double in the fifth inning to extend his hit streak to 12 contests.
Sounds starter Tyler Herb (5.0 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 ER, BB, 4 SO) earned the victory, yielding two earned runs on five hits in five frames, while Bulls southpaw Josh Fleming (2.0 IP, 2 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, SO) suffered the defeat. Nashville's bullpen triumvirate of Lucas Erceg (1.2 IP, H, BB, SO), Hobie Harris (1.0 IP, SO) and Trevor Kelley (1.1 IP, H, 2 SO) combined for the final four scoreless frames, allowing just two hits, with Kelly notching his seventh save.
The two teams are set to finish off their six-game set on Sunday evening, with first pitch scheduled for 5:05pm. RHP Taj Bradley is expected to toe the rubber for the Bulls and be opposed by Sounds RHP Caleb Boushley.
