Louisville Bats News Release
TOLEDO, OH- The Louisville Bats (51-71) fell to the Toledo Mud Hens (64-56) in a pitcher's duel on Saturday night at Fifth Third Field.
Each team's starters got off to excellent starts in the contest, holding each opposing team scoreless deep into the game.
Toledo's starter Bryan Garcia (1-3, 3.42) looked nearly untouchable, tossing 6.0 scoreless innings and alling just a lone hit while walking one and striking out seven.
The only hit surrendered by Garcia came in the second inning, when freshly-minted Louisville Bat TJ Hopkins lined a pitch on the outer half of the plate the opposite way, sending it bouncing into the right field corner for his first career Triple-A double.
Louisville starter Randy Wynne (5-11, 5.01) also started strong, including working through a bases loaded jam in the second inning. He finished the day by earning his seventh quality start this season, pitching 6.1 innings, giving up three runs on nine hits with a pair of strikeouts.
Toledo broke through in the bottom of the seventh, striking for all three of their runs.
After Toledo's Brendan Davis and John Valente reached base on back-to-back singles to start the frame, a sacrifice bunt moved them into scoring position for center fielder Daz Cameron. The sacrifice bunt proved unnecessary, as Cameron laced a 2-RBI triple deep into the right center field gap, putting Toledo on top 2-0.
In the following at-bat, Ryan Kreidler singled to bring home Cameron, pushing the Mud Hens' lead to the final score of 3-0.
Louisville will look to force a series split in tomorrow afternoon's game with first pitch scheduled for 2:05 p.m. Louisville southpaw Brandon Williamson (1-3, 3.77) will face off against Toledo right-hander Michael Pineda (0-2, 4.95).
