Iowa Cubs News Release

DES MOINES, IA - The St. Paul Saints (58-62) snapped the Iowa Cubs' (56-66) four-game winning streak, beating Iowa by a score of 6-3, Saturday at Principal Park.

The Saints got a run in the first inning on a balk and they kept their 1-0 lead until the fourth inning when Iowa tied it with a solo home run from John Hicks. Despite allowing a run on a balk, Major League rehabber Adbert Alzolay allowed just one hit and two walks while striking out six batters in his two innings of work.

The game wasn't tied for long, as St. Paul scored three runs in the fifth on an error and a two-run home run by Mark Contreras. They added to their lead with a single from David Banuelos in the sixth to make it 5-1.

David Bote hit an RBI ground out to bring it to 5-2 and Danis Correa allowed just one unearned run on one hit and one walk while striking out three batters over his two innings of work.

Matt Mervis used an RBI double in the eighth inning to make it 6-3, but that is all Iowa would score as they dropped their first game of the series.

POSTGAME NOTES:

- After getting four straight starts of five innings to start the series, Iowa used six pitchers to get through nine innings tonight.

- The top four hitters in Iowa's lineup collected five of their six hits tonight and all three of their extra-base hits. The rest of the lineup went just 1-for-18.

- In his first game off the developmental list, Cayne Ueckert threw a scoreless ninth inning. The righty allowed one walk and hit a batter while striking out one, throwing 14 of his 24 pitches for strikes.

Iowa and St. Paul will play the sixth and final game of their series tomorrow, with first pitch from Principal Park set for 1:08 pm. For more information and tickets, visit www.iowacubs.com.
