Charlotte Knights News Release

(MEMPHIS, TN) - With the Charlotte Knights and Memphis Redbirds tied at 2-2 in the bottom of the eighth inning, a lighting malfunction at AutoZone Park caused the game to be delayed. After a lengthy delay, the game was suspended and will now be resumed at 2:05 p.m. ET on Sunday afternoon. Following the completion of that game, the two teams will play the regularly scheduled finale on Sunday. That game will not start earlier than the regularly scheduled time of 3:05 p.m. ET.

As for Saturday's game, the Redbirds scored first and did so in the bottom of the second inning on an RBI double by Cory Spangenberg. The Redbirds held a 1-0 lead through the first five innings of the game.

Chicago White Sox catcher Yasmani Grandal put the Knights on the scoreboard in the top of the sixth inning on an RBI groundout to tie the game at 1-1. Two innings later, Grandal gave the Knights the lead with an RBI double in the top of the eighth inning. Grandal, who is currently on an MLB rehab assignment, drove home both of Charlotte's runs on Saturday.

In the bottom of the eighth inning, the Redbirds began to rally and eventually loaded the bases against Charlotte LHP Andrew Perez. With the bases loaded and just one out, Memphis right fielder Conner Capel drew a walk, which tied the game at 2-2. With the bases still loaded at that point, the Knights went to the bullpen and called on reliever Daniel Winkler to stop the Memphis rally. Before Winkler could throw a pitch, however, a stadium light pole went out and the game was delayed. Due to the malfunction, the game was eventually suspended and will now be picked up in the bottom of the eighth inning with the bases loaded and one out on Sunday.

RHP Lincoln Henzman started the game for Charlotte and allowed just one run (unearned) over three strong innings.

The two teams will conclude the six-game series on Sunday afternoon with the resumption of Saturday's game and Sunday's regularly scheduled finale. The games can be heard live on 730 The Game ESPN and online at www.CharlotteKnights.com.
