SPRINGFIELD, MA - The American Hockey League's Bridgeport Sound Tigers, top affiliate of the National Hockey League's New York Islanders, beat the Springfield Falcons 2-1 on the road Saturday. It was the fourth straight win and third in a row on the road for the Sound Tigers who evened their record at 6-6-1 with the victory.

Masi Marjamaki made a great play to move the puck from behind the Springfield net out front to Wyatt Smith who banged home his fifth goal of the season 5:05 into the first period to give the Sound Tigers a 1-0 lead. Smith now has points in seven of the nine games he has played in since missing the first two weeks of the season with an ankle injury.

Smith doubled the Sound Tigers' lead to 2-0 with his second goal of the evening chipping a rebound past Falcons goaltender Jonathan Boutin 7:22 into the middle frame off assists from Paul Flache and Evgeny Tunik. The helper was the first point as a Sound Tiger for Flache while Tunik extended an assist streak to three games on the play.

Springfield converted the front end of a four-minute power play to cut the lead to 2-1 late in the second period when Darren Reid fired the rebound of a Harlan Pratt shot past Sound Tigers netminder Chris Madden at the 18:39 mark. Jason Jaspers earned the other assist on the play.

The teams then zipped through the third period with no penalties called or goals scored. The Falcons did try to pull Boutin in favor of an extra attacker but were forced to take a face-off in their end of the ice with just over a half-minute left to play, and the Sound Tigers kept them bottled up inside their own blue line until time expired.

Both goaltenders played an excellent game, but it was Madden earning his fourth straight win with 22 saves; Boutin, who made a number of highlight-reel stops, took the loss with 19 saves.

Smith was the first star, Reid the second and Tunik the third. The Sound Tigers were 0 for 1 on the power play while Springfield was 1 for 4 as the teams combined for just ten minutes in penalties. The Falcons had a 23-21 shots on goal advantage.

The Sound Tigers will finish a three-game-in-three-day weekend when they host the Lowell Lock Monsters Sunday at 4:05 p.m. on Storm's Birthday and a Slapshot Sunday.
