Cleveland Barons News Release
CLEVELAND, OH - Grant Stevenson scored two goals and added an assist to lead the Barons to an impressive 3-2 win against the Manitoba Moose at National City Rink on Saturday night. The victory was the Barons fourth win in the last five games.
After a disappointing effort on Friday night, the Barons responded with a spirited opening twenty minutes on Saturday. Although skating through a scoreless tie, the Barons dominated the first period out-shooting the visiting Moose, 14-6. Rob McVicar was the difference with 14-saves for the Moose in his fourth appearance of the season. Jamie Holden stopped all six shots in his fifth appearance for the Barons this season.
The Barons drew first blood with Stevenson scoring his fifth goal of the year for a 1-0 lead just 55-seconds into the second period. Josh Hennessy and Garrett Stafford assisted on the Barons only goal of the period. The Moose stormed back with back-to-back power play goals to take a 2-1 lead after forty minutes. Sven Butenschon began the offensive surge with his fifth goal of the season to tie the game at 1-1. Jesse Schultz then followed Butenschon's goal nearly four minutes later with the go-ahead tally.
The Barons comeback bid would be an uphill climb as the Moose entered tonight's affair with a perfect 6-0-0-0 mark when leading after two periods of action. However, the Barons were not intimidated by impressive statistics as they battled back with two un-answered goals for a 3-2 victory. Stevenson?s second goal of the night came just 74-seconds into the final frame on a power play to tie the game at 2-2. Mike Iggulden and Ray DiLauro assisted on Stevenson?s goal to set up a dramatic game-winner from Josh Prudden. The third-year forward, Prudden, tallied his first goal of the season for a 3-2 lead at the midpoint of the period on assists from Stevenson and Craig Valette.
Holden earned his fourth straight win with a 27-save performance and earned the Barons their fourth straight win on home ice. McVicar suffered the loss for Manitoba despite a strong performance and 26-saves.
