Iowa Chops News Release

DES MOINES, IA - The Iowa Stars bounced back from their loss on Friday night, and skated to a convincing 5-1 win over the Toronto Marlies Saturday night at Wells Fargo Arena. The win snapped the Stars three-game losing streak, and two-game home losing streak.

The Stars offense was powered by two-point efforts by three different players. Defenseman Patrick Traverse netted the game-winning goal and assisted on rookie center Jamie Johnson's goal. Traverse's goal was his first of the season. He leads the team with 12 overall points. For Johnson, it was his first American Hockey League goal and along with his assist, was his fourth point in two nights: (1/3/4).

Not to be outdone, rookie B.J. Crombeen recorded his first professional goal and added an assist in the victory. Goalie Mike Smith came within 6:07 of recording the Iowa Stars first shutout in franchise history. The Kingston, Ontario native made 28 saves in his third win of the year. Smith pitched-in offensively as well, when he fired a 116-foot pass to Crombeen, picking-up the lone assist.
