Manchester Monarchs News Release

MANCHESTER, NH -The Manchester Monarchs had six goals by five different rookies to sneak past the Hershey Bears and former head coach Bruce Boudreau, 6-5, in overtime in front of a crowd of 7,797 fans at the Verizon Wireless Arena on Saturday night. The Monarchs (8-3-0-1, 17 points) are in third place in the Atlantic Division. Hershey (8-3-1-3, 20 points) is in second place in the East Division.

Skating 4-on-4, left wing Jeff Tambellini received a pass from left wing Noah Clarke in the neutral zone and shot a bullet from the right face-off circle to put the Monarchs on the board. Hershey goaltender Kirk Daubenspeck made the initial save on his glove side but Tambellini grabbed his rebound and gently placed the puck over Daubenspeck's left shoulder with his backhand at 6:33 of the first period. Defenseman Doug Nolan started the play from Monarchs territory.

Defenseman Richard Petiot scored his second in as many nights at 4:55 of the second period. Tambellini won the face-off to right wing Brad Smyth, who slid the puck to Petiot at the point. Petiot wound up and fired his slap shot that blazed between the legs of Daubenspeck.

Former Monarchs center Jared Aulin skated in and shot a bullet off the left goal post. Left wing Chris Bala picked up Aulin's rebound and slid the puck to defenseman Mike Green at the far point. Green's shot also hit off the far post but trickled over the goal line behind Monarchs netminder Adam Hauser for his first of the season at 14:04 of the second period.

Hershey tied the game at 2-2 as right wing Boyd Kane blistered a wrist shot five-hole on Hauser at the 19-minute mark of the middle frame. Defenseman Jakub Cutta and former Monarchs center David Steckel assisted on Kane's third of the season.

Tambellini gave the Monarchs back the lead thirty-seconds into the final period as he chipped the puck into the net as a scramble ensued in front. Center Connor James and Smyth assisted on Tambellini's second of the night.

Defenseman Richard Seeley, playing in his first game in the Verizon Wireless Arena since returning to the Monarchs after a season split between Bridgeport and Norfolk, opted to slide the puck in front of the net rather than shooting. Rookie forward Brendan Bernakevitch capitalized on the play with his fourth of the season. Defenseman Joey Mormina assisted to give the Monarchs a 4-2 lead at 2:21 of the third.

Hershey fought back to within one as right wing Eric Fehr shot in a power play goal at 7:07. Defenseman Jean-Francois Fortin's shot from the point was blocked by Hauser but Fehr flicked in the rebound. Center Joey Tenute assisted on Fehr's fifth of the season.

The Bears tied the game, 4-4, at the 8:33 of the third as right wing Graham Mink scored Hershey's second power play goal of the game. Fehr and Tenute assisted on the tying goal.

Defenseman Mark Wotton gave the Bears their first and only lead of the game, 5-4, at 11:20 of the final frame. Wotton shot the puck from the left point and it whizzed under Hauser's right arm and just inside the near post for his first of the season. Green and Fehr assisted on the go-ahead goal.

Rookie right wing Ryan Murphy tallied his first professional goal to tie the game at 5-5 as he poked in the loose puck that was bouncing around the goal crease. Defenseman Marty Wilford and Bernakevitch assisted on the tying goal.

The game-winning overtime goal came off of the stick of rookie right wing Lauri Tukonen at 3:07 of overtime. Bernakevitch passed the puck to Tukonen who roofed it top shelf.

Hauser (5-2-1) collected 42 saves. Daubenspeck (3-1-1) took his first loss of the season stopping 27 shots.

Manchester went 0-for-5 on the power play. Hershey was 2-for-7 with the man advantage.
