PHILADELPHIA, PA - The American Hockey League's 2001-02 Regular Season Champion and Eastern Conference Playoff Champion Bridgeport Sound Tigers, top affiliate of the National Hockey League's New York Islanders, beat the Philadelphia Phantoms 2-1 in overtime on the road Wednesday to snap a four-game winless streak at 0-3-1 and a five-game road skid at 0-3-2. It was their first overtime win of the season and improved their overall record in the extra session to 2-1-8 this season.

After a scoreless first period, in which the Sound Tigers had a 16-5 shots on goal advantage, Eric Manlow opened the scoring on the power play. With Peter Vandermeer serving a four-minute double-minor for roughing and cross-checking, Manlow intercepted a clearing attempt, stickhandled through traffic and rifled a shot over the shoulder of Philadelphia Goaltender Antero Niittymaki and just under the cross bar. The unassisted goal made it 1-0 Sound Tigers with 3:09 left in the second period and, in the absence of Trent Hunter on recall to the Islanders, was Manlow's team-leading 11th of the season.

Philadelphia tied the game mid-way through the third period on Mike Lephart's third goal of the season, his second against the Sound Tigers, at 10:04, just :17 after a power play expired, with Ian MacNeil and Jack Baker notching the assists. The Phantoms outshot the Sound Tigers 17-5 in the third period.

Daniel Tkaczuk took the rebound of a save by Goaltender Rick DiPietro, raced up the right wing and blasted a slapshot over the left shoulder of Niittymaki with :12.1 left in overtime for his fifth goal of the season giving the Sound Tigers the 2-1 win. DiPietro earned the only assist on the deciding goal, his third helper of the season.

Tkaczuk was the number one star of the game, Lephart number two, and DiPietro, who also made 28 saves, was number three. The Sound Tigers were 1 for 5 on the power play, 4 for 4 on the penalty kill and outshot Philadelphia 35-29 including 4-1 in the overtime.

The Sound Tigers will continue the initial three-game leg of a seven-game road trip when they visit the Norfolk Admirals Friday at 7:30 p.m. and the Hershey Bears Saturday at 7 p.m. All games are broadcast live on "The ZONE" FOX Sports Radio 1300 and at www.soundtigers.com.
