Monarchs Add Welch To Roster

Manchester, NH - The Manchester Monarchs (AHL), the primary affiliate of the Los Angeles Kings (NHL), today announced the signing of wing Dan Welch to an amateur tryout agreement (ATO). Monarchs Director of Hockey Operations Hubie McDonough made the announcement, and terms of the agreement were not disclosed. The Monarchs also today assigned defenseman Mat Snesrud and left wing Brian McCullough to the Reading Royals (ECHL).

Welch, 21, was selected by the Kings in the eighth round (245th overall) of the 2000 NHL Entry Draft, and he's expected to see his first pro action tonight when the Monarchs (21-8-3-3, 48 points) travel to New York's capital city to battle the Albany River Rats at 7:05 p.m. The 5-foot-11, 193-pound native of Hastings, MN will wear jersey number 29. Welch skated for both the NCAA Champion Minnesota Golden Gophers (WCHA) and the Omaha Lancers (USHL) during the 2001-02 season. In 19 games with the Gophers he collected four goals, seven assists, 11 points and 12 penalty minutes. In seven games with the Lancers he scored four goals, two assists and six points while registering eight penalty minutes. In 52 games with the Lancers during the 2000-01 season, Welch had 30 goals, 27 assists, 57 points and 103 penalty minutes. He was even better during the 2001 USHL playoffs, scoring an impressive nine goals, 13 assists and 22 points in just 12 games. During the 1999-00 season, Welch notched six goals, eight assists, 14 points and 31 penalty minutes in 36 games with the Gophers.

Snesrud and McCullough were both recalled by the Monarchs on Saturday, January 4 and both skated with the Monarchs vs. the Hershey Bears on Sunday, January 5.
