Flames Wives and Girlfriends to Collect Videos at Weekend Games
January 8, 2003 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Saint John Flames News Release
SAINT JOHN, NB â The Saint John Flames wives and girlfriends will be collecting new and previously viewed videos at the door this weekend as the Flames host the Portland Pirates on Friday, January 10 and the Lowell Lock Monsters on Saturday, January 11.
Fans are encouraged to bring new or previously-viewed videos for donation to either of the weekend games. The Flames wives and girlfriends will collect the videos on behalf of the Kiwanis Club of Saint John, which will distribute them to pediatric departments in Southern New Brunswick hospitals.
"When children are sick and in the hospital, videos are often a comfort and a distraction that can help to pass the time," stated Saint John Regional Child Life Department manager Beth McNutt. "The generosity of Flames fans is greatly appreciated by not only the staff and pediatric patients, but also their families.
The Kiwanis club's main focus is on children's videos, however, other video donations will be accepted. The collected videos, destined primarily for Pediatrics departments in Region 2 hospitals, will also find use in geriatric sections and outpatient areas.
Last year, the Flames players' wives and girlfriends collected close to 500 videos.
Tickets for the weekend games against Portland, 7:30 p.m. Friday and Lowell, 7:00 p.m. Saturday and all remaining January & February Flames home games are currently available at the Harbour Station Box Office, the Imperial Theatre Box Office, selected Irving locations (Main Street West, Champlain Heights, Millidgeville, Marr Road, Hampton and Grand Bay), and Charge-by-Phone at 657-1234 or 1-800-267-2800.
All Flames broadcasts can be heard live on 96.1 NewSong FM in Saint John or on the web at www.newsongfm.com.
The 2002-03 season marks the Saint John Flames' tenth as a member of the American Hockey League and as the primary development organization of the National Hockey League's Calgary Flames.
