
Sound Tigers Sweep Weekend Road Trip To Utah

The Sound Tigers swept a two-game-in-two-night weekend road trip to Utah beating the Grizzlies 6-2 Friday and 2-1 in overtime Saturday. They finished the week in 4th place in the East Division with 11 points and a 4-3-2-1 record including 3-1-1 on the road and 1-2-1-1 at home.
FRI OCT 31st at UTA, 6-2 W: The Sound Tigers set their season high mark for goals in a game for the second contest in a row in the win. JEFF HAMILTON had two goals including the first of the contest just 46 seconds in and an assist, MARTIN KARIYA and MARTIN CHABADA had a goal and an assist each, ERIC MANLOW had two assists, DEREK BEKAR and RYAN KRAFT scored once each, and DIETER KOCHAN made 26 saves. The Sound Tigers were 0 for 6 on the power play while Utah was 1 for 6 and had a 28-26 shots on goal advantage.
SAT NOV 1st at UTA, 2-1 OTW: JUSTIN MAPLETOFT redirected a CAIL MacLEAN shot with 1:10 left in regulation to tie the game, BLAINE DOWN earned an assist on the equalizer in his first game back from off-season shoulder surgery, RYAN KRAFT scored 30 seconds into overtime, and WADE DUBIELEWICZ made 29 saves for his second win in as many appearances. The Sound Tigers were 0 for 5 on the power play but 2 for 2 on the penalty kill. They had a 33-30 shots on goal advantage including 14-2 in the third period and 1-0 in the extra session.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK â C RYAN KRAFT
Kraft finished last week on a three-game, goal-scoring streak including an even-strength goal Friday and the overtime winner Saturday. The former draft pick of the NHL's San Jose Sharks, who signed with the New York Islanders in the off-season, finished last week with three goals, one assist and four points in ten games this season.
TIMMS FINISHES MARATHON WEEKEND Sound Tigers Athletic Trainer GARRETT TIMMS finished a grueling weekend by running in Sunday's New York City Marathon. Timms traveled with the Sound Tigers to Utah early Thursday morning, worked both games on Friday and Saturday, took a red-eye flight back east Saturday night and then ran Sunday's marathon in 4:15:55. He ran with his sister COURTNEY TIMMS and New York Islanders Head Trainer RICH CAMPBELL.
THIS WEEK â Sound Tigers Finish Five Straight Road Games
The Sound Tigers will finish a stretch of five straight road games with two contests in as many nights this weekend. They will visit the Providence Bruins Saturday at 7:05 p.m. and the Philadelphia Phantoms Sunday at 6:05 p.m.
SAT, NOV 8th at PRO, 7:05 p.m.: This will be the first of four meetings, the first of two in Providence, of the teams this season. The Sound Tigers are 1-5-2 all-time versus the Bruins including 1-2-1 last season. Providence begins this week tied with the Portland Pirates for fourth place in the Atlantic Division with ten points and a 4-4-2 record including 2-2-1 at home. The Bruins start this week taking the fourth-fewest shots on goal per game, 24.4, while allowing the most, 36.6, in the AHL this season. Former Assistant Coach SCOTT GORDON was named head coach of the "P-Bruins" when former Head Coach MIKE SULLIVAN was named the new bench boss of the NHL's Boston Bruins during the off-season. Providence will host the Lowell Lock Monsters Friday.
SUN, NOV 9th at PHI, 6:05 p.m.: This will be the third of eight meetings, the first of four in Philadelphia, of the teams this season. The Sound Tigers are 4-5-1 all-time, 0-1-1 this season, versus the Phantoms who begin this week in sixth place in the East Division with eight points and a 3-5-1-1 record including 1-2-0-1 at home. LW PETER VANDERMEER starts this week with the second-most penalty minutes, 53, in the League. Philadelphia will play a home-on-home series with the Hershey Bears hosting them on Friday and visiting "Chocolatetown" Saturday.
