Manitoba Moose News Release

The Vancouver Canucks, the NHL affiliate of the Manitoba Moose, announced today they have assigned defenceman Nolan Baumgartner (BAWM-gahrt-nuhr) to the Manitoba Moose.

This season, the 27-year old had played in five games with the Penguins and registered one point. He also collected two penalty minutes. The Calgary, AB native was claimed by Pittsburgh during the waiver draft from the Canucks back on October 3, 2003 and reclaimed off waivers by the Canucks on November 1, 2003.

With the Moose in 2002-03, Baumgartner registered 39 points (eight goals, 31 assists) with a team-high +15 rating and 82 penalty minutes in 59 AHL games. He was the team's second leading scorer among defencemen and tied for fourth in team scoring. At year's end, he was voted the team's most outstanding defenceman. Last year, Baumgartner recorded three points (1 goal, 2 assists), a +4 rating and four penalty minutes. He appeared in one playoff game for the Moose last year, while seeing action in two post-season games with the Canucks.

Baumgartner was originally drafted by the Washington Capitals in the first round, 10th overall, in the 1994 NHL entry draft.
