
Sound Tigers Sign Jake Newton to PTO

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (Feb. 14, 2014) - The Bridgeport Sound Tigers announced today that defenseman Jake Newton has signed a professional tryout contract (PTO).
Newton, 25, appeared in 36 games for the Ontario Reign (ECHL) this season and collected 29 points (12 goals, 17 assists). He returned to North America this season after playing with HC Eppan Pirates of Serie A2 in Italy in 2012-13. The team won the league championship that season and Newton was named the league's best player. From 2010-2012, Newton skated in 79 AHL games between the Syracuse Crunch and Lake Erie Monsters. He also played 11 games for the Allen Americans (CHL) in 2011-12.
The Sound Tigers will take on the Springfield Falcons on the road Saturday night before returning home for a game against the Albany Devils Sunday at 3 p.m.
