Syracuse Crunch News Release
Syracuse, NY - The Syracuse Crunch were shut out 2-0 by the Norfolk Admirals tonight at the Norfolk Scope.
Admirals netminder John Gibson stopped all 17 shots faced and Rickard Rakell and Devane Smith-Pelly each added a goal to give Norfolk a 5-2-0-0 lead in the eight-game season series. The Crunch and Admirals will conclude the season series on Saturday, Feb. 15 in Norfolk.
The loss brings the Crunch's overall record to 18-22-3-5 and 11-13-2-2 away from the War Memorial Arena. Both teams were unable to score on three power-play chances. Crunch goaltender Cedrick Desjardins stopped 24 of 26 shots in the loss.
After a scoreless opening frame Norfolk center Rakell scored the eventual game-winner 4:01 into the second period. Desjardins made the initial save on a Devante Smith-Pelly shot, but Rakell scored on a rebound from the left circle. After a Crunch turnover at the blue line right winger Emerson Etem scored at the end of an odd man rush to extend Norfolk's lead to 2-0 6:41 into the final frame.
