St. John's IceCaps News Release

The St. John's IceCaps surrendered three first period goals and were unable to complete the comeback, losing 3-2 to the Providence Bruins Friday night at the Dunkin' Donuts Center in Providence, RI.

Carl Klingberg and John Albert scored for St. John's, while Will O'Neill picked up two assists. Michael Hutchinson stopped 22 shots in the loss.

Mike Moore put the Bruins up 1-0 at the 8:01 mark of the first period. Circling the net, Seth Griffith pulled Hutchinson out of position and fed a pass out front to Moore, who one-timed his fourth into the yawning cage.

Just minutes later, Klingberg tied it up on his 13th of the season on a shot that bounced through Svedberg, with Kael Mouillierat picking up the only assist on the tally, to make it 1-1.

On a power play later in the frame, Craig Cunningham buried his 19th on a rebound that bounced right onto his stick, giving the Bruins a 2-1 lead.

Providence extended its lead to 3-1 on a delayed penalty call at 18:09. Justin Florek found the loose puck and backhanded a shot past Hutchinson from one knee, sending the IceCaps to the dressing room down a pair.

Despite taking a penalty early in the second, the IceCaps narrowed the deficit to one after a tremendous effort from Albert. Speeding in on the left wing, Albert beat his man wide and circled the net before beating Svedberg on the short side to make it a 3-2 game.

The IceCaps outshot the Bruins 12-6 in the third but were unable to solve Niklas Svedberg, who finished the game with 26 saves for the victory.

With the loss, Providence jumped ahead of St. John's for second place in the Atlantic Division. The IceCaps head to Manchester for an afternoon tilt Sunday (4:30 PM NT), the second game of their six-game road trip.
