P-Bruins Defeat IceCaps 3-2

Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins defeated the St. John's IceCaps 3-2 Friday evening at the Dunkin' Donuts Center. Mike Moore, Craig Cunningham and Justin Florek scored the P-Bruins goals, while Niklas Svedberg made 26 saves for the victory.

Providence got on the board first at the 8:01 mark of the opening period with a goal by Moore. For Moore it was his fourth goal of the season, with Seth Griffith and Alexander Khokhlachev getting the assists. Minutes later, the IceCaps tied the game at the 10:30 mark on a goal by Carl Klingberg, his 13th of the season. Eric O'Dell and Will O'Neill recorded the assists. Providence regained the lead at the 12:48 mark with a power play goal from Cunningham, his 19th goal of the season. Ryan Spooner and Blake Parlett grabbed the assists. Providence added to their lead at the 18:09 mark, as Florek scored off a rebound from a shot by Griffith. It was Florek's 12th goal of the season, while Khokhlachev picked up the second assist. Providence took a 3-1 lead into the first intermission.

The IceCaps jumped out in the second period with a few chances to try and cut into the Providence lead and finally capitalized at the 3:21 mark of the second period, while shorthanded. John Albert tallied his ninth goal of the season, with O'Neill and Julian Melchiori getting the assists. The P-Bruins led 3-2 going into the second intermission.

After a scoreless third period the P-Bruins held on for the 3-2 victory. Svedberg stopped 26 of 28 shots in net for the P-Bruins, while Michael Hutchinson made 22 saves for the IceCaps. Providence went 1-for-5 on the power play and 3-for-3 on the penalty kill.

The P-Bruins return to action at the Dunkin' Donuts Center Sunday at 3:05pm against the Hartford Wolf Pack.
