Barons Extend Winning Streak to 6; Down Monsters 2-1

Oklahoma City Barons News Release

Anton Lander scored the game-winning goal with 20 seconds left in the third period as the Oklahoma City Barons extended their winning streak to six games Friday night at the Cox Convention Center by downing the Lake Erie Monsters 2-1.

With 19:40 remaining in regulation, and the Barons on the power play thanks to a late hooking call on Lake Erie's Karl Stollery, Brad Hunt sent a cross-ice pass to Lander, who rifled a one timer past Monsters goalie Sami Aittokallio for that game-winning goal.

Barons goalie Richard Bachman stopped 39 of 40 shots on the night for his 15th win of the season.

After a scoreless first period, the Barons got on the board early in the second when C.J. Stretch gathered the rebound off a Roman Horak shot and maneuvered it around Aittokallio for a 1-0 Barons lead at 4:41 of the frame.

At 15:04 of the second period, Oklahoma City's Travis Ewanyk and Lake Erie's Garrett Meurs were both whistled for roughing and unsportsmanlike conduct penalties, creating a 4-on-4 situation. Less than a minute later, OKC's Martin Gernat was called for slashing, which gave the Monsters a 4-on-3 advantage. Seconds after Gernat's penalty expired, Matt Hunwick raced toward the Barons net after a Mark Olver shot from the point and jammed the rebound past Bachman to knot the score at one goal apiece at 18:07 of the second period.

The score remained tied throughout the third period until Lander's winner.

Oklahoma City improved to 22-22-1-5, while Lake Erie dropped to 20-24-0-4.

The Barons are back in action Saturday at the Cox Convention Center when they once again take on the Lake Erie Monsters at 7 p.m. The game features a Barons hockey stick giveaway, postgame autograph session and one lucky fan will drive away in a new car during the Drive Away Every Saturday promotion.
