Sound Tigers Outgun Lowell 7-4

BRIDGEPORT, CT - The American Hockey League's Bridgeport Sound Tigers, top affiliate of the National Hockey League's New York Islanders, beat the Lowell Lock Monsters 7-4 Friday to up their record against the Lock Monsters to 4-0 at home and 7-0 overall this season. The Sound Tigers also went three games over the .500 mark for the first time this season at 25-22-3-2.

Rob Collins led off the scoring with his 14th goal of the season on assists from Steve Regier and Chris Thompson giving the Sound Tigers the 1-0 lead, at 2:30 of the first period.

"We knew this was a big game," Collins said. "We look for wins every game and we are happy with the two points tonight."

Lowell was able to tie the game at 1-1 when Paul Healey knocked a loose puck past Sound Tigers goalie Wade Dubielewicz 6:01 into the first for his ninth goal of the season. Chris Hajt and Keith Aucoin contributed to the play with assists.

The Sound Tigers stormed right back, regaining the lead just 2:14 later when Cole Jarrett fed Matt Koalska for his 14th goal of the season, tapping home a back-door pass for the 2-1 lead. Jeff Hamilton also assisted on the power-play tally.

With :39.2 remaining in the opening frame, the Lock Monsters tied the game at 2-2 when Niklas Nordgren tipped a Ryan Glenn shot through the legs of Dubielewicz for his fourth goal of the year. Johnny Boychuk also picked up an assist on the play.

In the middle frame, Sean Bergenheim notched two goals and an assist in a period where the Sound Tigers scored four unanswered goals. Bergenheim's first came 1:56 into the period when he jammed the puck past Lock Monsters goalie Tyler Weiman, for his 16th of the season giving the Sound Tigers the 3-2 lead with Hamilton and Jeremy Colliton assisting.

Jeff Hamilton made it a two-goal advantage at 4-2 with his 14th of the season, ripping the puck over Weiman's shoulder on assists from Bergenheim and Colliton at the 3:56 mark. Weiman was replaced by Craig Kowalski at that point.

Bergenheim followed with his second of the game and 17th of the season, a shorthanded tally, 2:57 later on a slap shot off an assist from Bruno Gervais making the score 5-2. Weiman then returned to the net after Kowalski allowed one goal on three shots.

Regier redirected a Harlan Pratt wrister past Weiman at 17:06 of the middle frame for his eighth of the year giving the Sound Tigers a commanding 6-2 lead at the end of the period. Allan Rourke also picked up an assist. The helper was Pratt's first point as a Sound Tiger.

In the third, the Lock Monsters starting chipping away at the Sound Tiger lead when Healey scored his second goal of the game and tenth of the season, on the power play, at 7:15 with Aucoin and Nordgren assisting on the goal making the score 6-3. Lowell's Jeff Finger would then score his second goal of the season on a one-timer from Frantisek Skladany and David Gove at 14:14 making it 6-4.

However, Collins put the game out of reach with 3:40 remaining when he tipped a head-man pass from Thompson for his second tally of the night and 15th of the year, making the score 7-4. Regier also added an assist on the play.

Bergenheim was the first star with two goals and an assist, Hamilton the second and Regier the third both with one goal and two assists. Dubielewicz finished the game with 32 saves while Weiman made 19 and Kowalski took the loss with two saves because he allowed the shorthanded game-winner. The Sound Tigers went 2 for 4 on the power-play while Lowell was 3 for 6 and held a 36-28 shots on goal advantage.

The Sound Tigers will visit the Hershey Bears tomorrow at 7 p.m. and return to Bridgeport's Arena at Harbor Yard to host the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins this Sunday at 4:05 p.m. All Sound Tigers games are web-cast live at www.soundtigers.com.
